Water Use Reduction

  • 50,370 gallons saved per year. In other words, enough water has been conserved to supply one person in the building with water for over 6 years.
  • Low-flow faucets and toilets installed in each unit.
  • Rain water harvesting. Since irrigation accounts for more than half of potable (drinking) water consumption, using a highly renewable resource is environmentally and economically efficient. Rainwater is collected in the gutter system, and then held in a cistern to be used for landscaping purposes.
  • Pervious parking in rear reduces storm water run-off, allowing water to percolate into the ground.
  • Total water use reduced by 36%

Re-used, Re-cycled, and Environmentally Conscious Materials

  • 100% of non-structural interior saved.
  • Cabinets constructed with Lyptus wood, a rapidly renewable resource.
  • Countertops made of IceStone, a durable and granite-looking surface made of 100% recycled glass in a cement matrix.
  • EnergyStar appliances

Roofing

  • Reflective roof reduces the heat impact on the building during the summer months, energy used and costs associate with cooling. It also reduces Heat Island Effect, the temperature difference between developed and undeveloped areas.

Indoor Air Quality

  • Low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints, adhesives, and sealants used throughout the building. Reducing VOCs decreases potential for lung disease, headaches, and eye, nose and throat irritation.
  • New 1 ton, 13 SEER HVAC systems installed. These cooling systems replace Freon with a chlorine-free and ozone-friendly refrigerant gas. It uses less energy to heat and cool the building.

Energy Efficient Lighting

  • 100% occupied space has daylight view.
  • High efficiency lighting installed throughout building. These fixtures not only consume less energy, but also produce less heat, reducing the amount of cooling required.
  • Placement of motion sensors reduces the amount of electricity used for lighting in common areas and the building’s exterior.

Waste Reduction

  • All old appliances were donated to Habitat for Humanity.
  • Implementation of one of the first recycling programs for a condo association in Savannah.
  • Recycled Plastic, Metal and Cardboard throughout the construction process.

Alternative Transportation

  • Indoor bike storage supplied for all residents.
  • Located in the heart of downtown – safe walking or biking distance to all downtown parks, and commercial, residential and academic areas.
